Resources for a Career in Materials Science and Engineering
MIT Alumni Association
Current MIT students can register for the Infinite
Connection. By joining the MIT Alumni Association's worldwide
community, students gain access to the Institute Career Assistance
Network and to the Online Alumni Directory.
Institute Career Assistance Network (ICAN)
The Institute Career Assistance Network (ICAN)
provides alum to student support for professional networking
and career guidance. More than 2,400 MIT alumni representing
diverse career fields are volunteers in the network, and are
willing to share their career experiences and offer advice
about career paths, interviewing, career fields and specific
companies. Alumni career advisors vary in age, and are at
different stages in their careers. Advising can range from
communicating by telephone or e-mail, to meeting alumni in
person to receive career advice. In addition, students can
search for alumni offering internships or who have been involved
in start-ups. At the ICAN website students can also find important
tips for making the contact, conducting a successful informational
interview, and a bibliography of recommended career-related
publications. Students can use the online, searchable ICAN
database of alumni career advisors after they have registered
for an Infinite Connection account.
