The Department offers the graduate degrees of Master of Engineering
(M.Eng.), Master of Science (S.M.),
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and
Doctor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering (Sc.D.).
The DMSE M.Eng. is a 12-month program which begins in September
and is completed at the end of the following summer. However,
generally the time needed to earn an advanced degree cannot
be predicted as accurately as the four years generally needed
for the S.B. Typically, the Master's degree requires 1-2 years
of study and the doctorate a total of 5-6 years, including
the time spent in the Department earning the S.M.
