Applying to Graduate School at MIT
When applying to graduate school at MIT, you are essentially
applying to a specific department. It is important that you
indicate on the application the degree and program that you
wish to pursue. Your application is then evaluated by the
appropriate department and you are notified of the result.
Please noteeven if your objective is to enter an interdepartmental
program, you must still apply through one of the participating
departments.
The following graduate degree programs are solely administered by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering: M.S., M.Eng., and Ph.D./Sc.D.
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering participates in:
- The Program in Polymer Science and Technology (PPST)
- Joint Program with Harvard in the Division of Health Sciences and Technology (HST's Medical Engineering and Medical Physics PhD Program)
- Leaders for Manufacturing (LFM)
- Technology and Policy Program (TPP)
- Engineering Systems Division (ESD)
Applications for September admission
to the MS or PhD program must be submitted by January 4.
Applications for the MEng program are due on or before March
1.
